White-on-white: Rules are there to be broken, right?

I remember reading an article a few years ago on summer trend predictions, which claimed – quite explicitly – that a white-on-white outfit was an absolute sacrilege.

Not that I’m one for following fashion rules, but at the time it seemed like a pretty sensiblecanada goose jassen statement – I’m thinking 90s boy-band vibes and the Spice Girls on the red-carpet in two-piece suits.

But with the arrival of the noughties, we’re seeing a revival of the white-out in all the right ways. Celebrities are choosing full-whites as their shade of choice, for both off-duty and red-carpet styling and I love it!

White and white 2

Although, of course, we can wear white all-year-round, nothing says Spring/Summer more than a fresh all-white outfit.

I’m obsessed with the 70s trend at the moment, so wide-leg trousers and a basic tee are top choices in my wardrobe. Paired with a structured white jacket and daintycanada goose dames Love Holly jewellery, it’s the perfect work outfit for summer.

Sincerely Jules always has her street-style spot on and in this all-white ensemble, she looks utterly gorgeous. The ripped denim on these white jeans paired with detailed flat 300-207 sandals creates the idyllic off-duty summer look.

White on white 1

Oversized knits are a staple in any wardrobe, whether it’s spring, summer, autumn or winter.  They provide the perfect warmth for the colder months, whilst also being the ultimate evening cover-up for those chilly summer BBQ nights. Team with a pair of vintage white shorts or structured off-white skirt and you’re ready to take on any occasion.

So, now the summer season is just around the corner, I dare you TE0-141 to take on white-on-white and I think you’ll be surprised with just how incredible it looks.

Love Holly Red Carpet Style Challenge

Whilst I haven’t been cast the lead actress of a blockbuster hit or been nominated for my vocal talents just yet, I’m obsessed with looking at all the dreamy celebrity red carpet outfits, which got me thinking; if I ever found myself attending an awardscanada goose online ceremony or film premier on the arm of a talk, dark and handsome actor, what would I wear!?

I’m a champion of off-duty laid-back styling, but I get super excited when I get the chance to glam-up for an evening, even if it isn’t for the Oscars. After some extensive research (namely in Vogue, ELLE and Grazia), I see myself strutting down the red carpet in a chic, monochrome colour palette and I’ve raided the Love Holly wardrobe to see what pieces I could style up for the perfect outfit.

Elizabeth olsen

Strong style sense certainly runs through the Olsen family. Younger sister 100-105 and actor of the famous Olsen Twins, Elizabeth Olsen, attended the Avengers premier earlier this week looking gorgeous in this Galvan maxi dress featuring a simple cream t-shirt paired with a full length black skirt.

Get the look: Team a Love Holly Lorna Crew Neck Tee with a black split maxi skirt – I can’t get enough of this one from Pretty Little Things. For a touch of A- list glamour, add the Love Holly Gold Curved Bar Necklace and style yourcanada goose parka hair with loose waves and you’re ready to go.

A girl after my own heart – Elizabeth Olsen proves less is definitely more.

Margot Robbie

I don’t know about you but Margot Robbie is fast becoming my new style crush, and from this stunning red carpet look she wore to the UK premier for Focus, you can see why. What I love about Margot’s look is that it’s different to what we usually see on the red carpet, but it’s still as effortless and sophisticated.

Get the look: One of my favourite things about Love Holly pieces is that they’re adaptable and therefore perfect for adding the finishing touch to an outfit. While Margot wears an Alexandra McQueen coat over her monochrome jumpsuit, I’d opt for my favourite Lottie Long Cardigan to keep warm on a chilly red-carpet night.

sarah hyland

Sarah Hyland looks utterly angelic in her boxy white tee and lace skirt, oozing summer style.

Get the look: There’s so much you can do with a white tee, that the Love Holly Grace Swing Tee is an absolute summer wardrobe essential. Paired with a white lace skirt, you’ll look as fresh as a daisy 300-101 for those sophisticated summer parties. Finish your look with the Love Holly Silver Hammered Disc Bracelet, a vibrant colour-pop vintage clutch and gladiator heels. Perfect.

Now all I need is an invite to the OSCARs and I’m all set 😉

From Mauritius, with love

This week I’m super excited to be writing my blog post from the beautiful island of Mauritius.

Whilst, of course, I’ll be spending much of my time relaxing on the beach with the sand between my toes, I can assure you I’ll be staying at the top of my game with my Love Holly beach wardrobe and staying well clear of garish Hawaiian shirts and socks with sandals 😉

What’s great about Love Holly pieces is that they’re so versatile; you could team the Love Holly Hazel Dress with simple, dainty jewellery for a classic evening look or pair the Grace Swing Tee with bikini bottoms for an off-duty, day look.

A holiday starts as soon as I walk through the airport doors, even if I’m getting on a crazy early flight I cannot contain my excitement.

Deciding what to wear on the plane can be difficult – especially if you’re flying to a super-hot destination. Whenever I fly, I make sure I’m carrying my Lottie Cardigan. It’s light and removable so you won’t need to be bogged 300-206 down in layers when you arrive, but it’s also a great cover-up for a chilly flight. Oh and I ALWAYS ensure I’ve got my oversized sunglasses to hide any jet lag.

lottie cardigan

When I visit a new place, I love to check out what the local town and markets have to offer. I’ve got a soft spot for vintage finds and I love rummaging to find hidden treasures. The only problem with shopping in such a hot place like Mauritius, is that it can get a little clammy and sticky, especially if you’re amongst busy crowds.

For exploring, I team a pair of high-waisted vintage Lee Shorts with a Lorna Crew Neck Tee, keeping jewellery to a minimum and carrying a Love Holly vintage clutch that I can pop under my arm.

lorna crew neck

I never go away without packing my Love Holly Amour Dress to style up for the evenings. It’s the perfect day-to-night holiday piece, giving you the perfect off-duty style for the day, whilst maintaining a classic look for a sunset dinner.

I hope these outfits have given you inspiration for your 300-070 summer holiday wardrobe!

Dainty versus statement jewellery

Jewellery has this astonishing ability to transform an outfit. You can completely change a look from day to evening, simply by adding a piece – or three – of beautiful jewellery.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m fond of a statement necklace. The right ones, worn in the right way, can look exquisite. But for me, a statement necklace is a bit ofparajumpers salg a phase. Once I’ve bought one, it might make two, maybe three appearances, then it’ll get pushed to the back of my jewellery arm and become a distant memory.

dainty jewellery 1

Although costume jewellery and statement pieces will always have a place on the British high-street, over the past few years, we’ve seen a rise in the popularity of dainty necklaces, hand chains and stacking rings and there’s a very good reason why.

The timeless, classic nature of dainty jewellery is unquestionable. There’s usually a bit of a ‘style-dilemma’ risk with statement pieces, but when you’re wearing tiny little straps of gold, effortlessly placed here-and-there, letting the clothes do their own thing, the results are unquestionable.

dainty jewellery 2

How to wear dainty jewellery:

I’m a huge advocate of layering jewellery, especially as the warmer months are creeping up on us. Multiple necklaces, stacked rings and a beautiful hand-chain add the finishing 70-417 touch to an off-duty beach style. So whether you’re layering ‘em up, stacking ‘em high, or simply opting for that one precious, fine necklace, you’re finished look will be simple, chic and completely unique.

Does this mean the era of costume necklaces and rings the size of your hand (OK, slight exaggeration) is over?

No, I don’t think so. Statement pieces will always have a place on the catwalk, but dainty jewellery has certainlyparajumpers billig stolen my heart.

Love Holly Style Challenge: Who’s your winner?

Spring is officially in the air, which means lighter evenings, a guilt-free weekend of munching on Easterparajumpers polo shirt dameneggs and most importantly, summer’s very nearly here! Oh and don’t forget, the clocks go forward an hour this Sunday so we’ll be missing out on some precious of beauty sleep 🙁

Spring weather can be super unpredictable, but luckily I can rely on my Love Holly Style Challenge bloggers to inspire me with some fantastic looks to wear come rain or shine.

Halcyon Velvet

I like to think I’m a country-bumpkin at heart (although I’m probably more of a weather dependent country bumpkin ;)). There’s nothing more refreshing than a lovely walk on a gorgeous spring afternoon. Next time I head out, I’ll be taking inspiration from the lovely Samantha from Halcyon Velvet, who’s got the perfect style for a spring jaunt.

Like me, Samantha chose the Kate Midi Dress in grey-marl teamed with a suede 210-060 jacket and a retro pair of sunglasses for her off-duty Love Holly style. It’s an effortless, sophisticated, yet casual look and one I’ll definitely be stealing for myself.

Amy Valentine

I absolutely love seeing Love Holly pieces around the world.  Amy Valentine took the Grace Swing Tee all the way to Paris, to create the perfect outfit for a day of site-seeing. She teamed it with red velvet trousers and a stunning furParajumpers Dame coat, finishing off her Parisian style with a black fedora.

If there’s any way to melt my heart, it’s with a floppy fedora.

Dressed with Jessica

The best thing about Love Holly pieces is that they are so versatile and great to mix with other items in your wardrobe and Jessica has done just that. Creating a beautiful, Aztec inspired look 200-355 with the black Amour dress for an evening in the city.

Thank you to all the amazing bloggers who’ve sent me their Love Holly style-ups! I’ll be announcing the winner this Friday – stay tuned!

A day in the life of Love Holly

The sun is finally shining and summer is on its way! I’ve been super busy with designing and manufacturing over the past couple of months, but thought I would take a little time out to tell you what a day in the life of me, Holly – as the founder of a British fashion brand – is like.

Throwback thursday - travel

One of the first things I do when I wake up is to have a browse of Instagram and Pinterest to see what’s going on in the world, which immediately gets my brain buzzing with design inspiration and ideas. I’m on a bikini mission at the moment so a typical breakfast for me consists of spinach, poached eggs and smoked salmon (I save the naughty pancakes for a weekend treat).

I like to spend time over breakfast, sitting down and planning my day, which also gives me time to decide what to start developing and moving forward with next. I’m not a tea or coffee drinker, but I do try and drink as much water as possible. We’re amidst the big freeze at the moment so I warm up with a hot water and lime, perfect as it’s so refreshing and cleansing.

My first priority is to ensure all customer queries are answered and all deliveries are beautifully packaged and sent on their way. I’m a big believer in providing excellent service, so I really focus on the detail of each order.

Building new relationships and maintaining current ones with suppliers is key for me. The Love Holly collection is first and foremost ‘Made in Britain’ and I think it’s hugely important that I know exactly where and how my jewellery and clothes are being made.

I don’t usually break for lunch. I’ll often grab a bite-to-eat on the go or in a meeting. The afternoon and evening tends to be when I’m most creative, so I dedicate this time to designing. My kitchen table doubles-up as a creative space; more often than not it’ll be full of sketches, samples, materials, swatches and magazines.

holly dainty jewellery

Although my brain’s usually working at 100 miles an hour, I always ensure I try to switch-off with some downtime. I’m a big cinema goer and I always get super excited about awards season.

Love Holly Style Challenge: Final countdown

Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun? I’ve been super busy at Love Holly HQ with new designs, fabric sourcing and catching up with my manufacturers, that the deadline for the #lovehollystylechallenge seems to have sprung-up out of nowhere!

I’ve received so many great entries and I’ve loved seeing how each blogger styles up a Love Holly piece to suit their individual style.

The Style Archive

Charlotte picked one of my wardrobe staples, the Katie Midi dress. It’s so versatile and adaptable and I’m obsessed with the outfit she’s created.

This is the perfect off duty style for a spring weekend and the dress looks great paired with a black leather jacket. Who ever said socks and sandals weren’t fashionable?! So simple, yet so chic.

Glitter and Grimes

Monique is wearing the Love Holly Hazel Dress with a pair of sunglasses and trainers for an effortless and laidback style.

It’s a great transitional outfit to carry us through to SS15.

 Fashion is Black

All this talk of the warmer weather is making me think of summer evenings, drinking cocktails and having BBQs with my friends, and Georgie is giving me huge inspiration for my own look.

Georgie has teamed her Love Holly Lottie long cardigan with a cut out crop top and split leg maxi skirt.

Sophie Hannah Richardson

Sophie has styled the Lola dress with mesh socks and chucky sandals, along with an edgy oversized rucksack. Sophie completes the look with an amazing statement necklace, which I just can’t get enough of!

The deadline for the #lovehollystylechallenge is Friday 20th March 2015, so if you haven’t already submitted your entry, you best get a wriggle on!

Cheltenham Festival Fashion

We’re amidst the most exciting week of the jump race calendar and aside from the thrill of the racing, I get such a buzz from seeing the outfits race-goers put together for the event – the good, the bad and the ugly! There really is no limit to the imagination at Cheltenham Festival.

Most, or at least the fashion conscious amongst the attendees, choose to sport an elegant, English country look. I love outfits with a 50s feel – something which we’ve seen in recent fashion weeks – combinations of faux fur scarves teamed with simple headpieces, layered amongst a chic coat or cape to finish the look.

blog 3

Think classic Audrey Hepburn with a modern twist; layered jewellery, a vintage clutch, a floppy fedora and dainty leather gloves.

The weather at the Cheltenham Festival can be super unpredictable – it’s definitely got a mind of its own. Some years you can be basking in the afternoon sun and other years you’re huddled into the bar because it’s crazy-cold outside.

Luckily they seem to be having pretty good weather – touch wood. Spring is in the air which calls for lighter layers and a pop of colour – a Love Holly vintage floral scarf will add the perfect pop of colour to your race day outfit. If the clouds draw in and the temperature drops, you can tie it under the collar of a box coat for a retro vintage look.

blog1

The beauty with Love Holly pieces is that mixed with the right accessories, you can create the perfect race outfit. Team the Love Holly black Amour dress with a vintage fedora hat, faux fur collar and Love Holly stacking rings and you’re all set with a sophisticated, yet off-duty race outfit.

blog2

Oh and don’t forget your vintage clutch bag… There’s nothing worse than carrying an over-sized slouch in the busy crowds of the festival. There’d be cocktails a-flying!

The Olsen Twins: Ultimate classic off-duty designers

They’re the multi-million pound twins who, before even their wee legs could carry them, were crowned Hollywood starlets. Perhaps the Olsen’s love of fashion comes from spending hours in set wardrobes and enduring more than 10 outfit changes a day from a young age or from being surrounded by the world’s top A-listers and fashionistas, either way, they have become iconic designers in their own right and I cannot get enough of them!

olsen twins

Mary-Kate and Ashley both gravitate towards a different, natural style. Whilst Ashley has a more elegant, New York, cool style, Mary-Kate has a quirkier look, mixing high-end grunge pieces with select vintage treasures – a girl after my own heart.

Ashley founded The Row in 2006 in a bid to design and make a luxurious basic white tee that would suit all women, of all ages. The twins fought back an army of cynics who didn’t think they’d designed the tee themselves. I think they were forgetting that this is coming from the girl who whore a deep v white tee on the red carpet and looked incredible.

Now, I’m throwing you back to 2011 here, when the Olsen’s designed one of my favourite collections to date. Where most designs prior to this had been focused around draped sweaters, pre-stretched tees and generously cut tailored suits, their pre-fall 2011 drifted apart from the course.

Having looked closely at Bianca Jagger in their design process, this collection definitely emitted more of a 70s vibe with wide-legs, rich silk tunic tops and light layering, playing around with a mixture of fabrics and textiles including skins and furs.

2011 olsens

It was the ultimate off-duty, laid-back, no-bother collection, but with each piece as classic as the rest. The Olsen’s are obsessed with a multifunctional and versatile wardrobe, and aim their collections at the very people who are likely to shun celebrate, high-end designers – the picky types who buy pieces on ‘intrinsic merit’.

An anonymous collection designed by the twins who have been in the limelight their entire lives – slightly ironic and most probably deliberate.

olsens 2015

Fast forward 4 years and the growing maturity of their designs is clear. For Spring 2015, we’ve seen the twins adapt a purer approach, with mid-calf hemlines, full A-line silhouettes and covered up arms and shoulders. Fabric wrapping, twisted waistlines and hints of peplums are prominent in the Olsen’s SS15 collection and I love it!

Is there any stopping the Olsen’s?
